About
A quiet haven on the northern edge of downtown, Coal Harbour draws Vancouverites who want to live downtown without experiencing all the hustle-and-bustle of its streets. That quietude, though, is often attributed to the alarming number of vacant units in the area. The neighbourhood encompasses just a few blocks, but even with that, it offers some of the best views in the city, looking north over the water and the mountains. Coal Harbour offers luxury to the max. This is the kind of place that ends up on magazines advertising the city… and for the right price, it’s all yours.

There are a lots of singles and couples, but few families. Units tend to be small, new and expensive. Luckily, rentals come up often in Coal Harbour.
Perfect for: Single professionals and couples with money in the bank.

Life & Style
Coal Harbour doesn’t have the history of many of Vancouver’s neighbourhoods. It’s pretty new, having only been created in the 90s. Between that, the luxury vibe, and the eerily vacant streets below the towering condo buildings, the area can feel a bit cold. But when it comes to having a place where you can swap between nights out on the town and quiet walks along the waterfront, enjoying the sunset, it doesn’t get better than Coal Harbour.
Neighbourhood
Just north of the West End, Coal Harbour is a tiny neighbourhood, but it crams a lot in. Along the water, you’ll find the seawall, Jack Poole Plaza, the Vancouver Convention Centre, a community centre, several marinas, and a number of dining hotspots. Throughout the neighbourhood, there are a number of main roads, making it easy to get around. The southeast end has the most shops and a few cool cafes and lunch spots. There are also a couple of spas and interesting stores dotting the area, as well as several high-end hotels.

Fun Fact
Coal Harbour sometimes gets accused of being flat or lacking in personality. The truth is, it depends on what you’re looking for. Coal Harbour is newer and it’s a small area, so it’s not going to have the same vibe as somewhere like Gastown or Yaletown. But what Coal Harbour does offer is peace and quiet. It’s the kind of neighbourhood where you go elsewhere for your days or nights out and then return to it when you need a break. If that’s the kind of place you’re looking for, Coal Harbour is a great option.
