Church-Yonge Corridor, ON

Guide de location

The perfect neighbourhood for the Yonge at heart

About

The Church-Yonge Corridor, which extends from Yonge to Jarvis and from Front to Bloor, is a lively neighbourhood in the heart of downtown. This is as urban as it gets, so be prepared to live life in the fast lane here. The area has incredible diversity, with residents having a wide variety of backgrounds, income levels, and lifestyles. The Corridor is best known for two of its sub-neighbourhoods: the Ryerson campus and the Church-Wellesley Village, known for decades as the “gaybourhood.” Anyone searching for an apartment in the Church-Yonge Corridor should be ready to shell out some coin, but you will get bang for your buck in the heart of it all.

Church-Yonge Corridor Rental Market: There are many Church-Yonge Corridor apartments for rent and new condos for rent, although there are a handful of mid- and low-rise older buildings offering plenty of character and spacious layouts. Bluntly, rents are high here. If you’re searching for a deal on apartments in Toronto, check in the northern half of the neighbourhood, closer to Jarvis. Those seeking more lavish accommodations should narrow their search closer to Yonge Street. Owners should have no problem finding condo options, with more being built every day.

Life & Style

Downtown hustle-and-bustle is the name of the Church-Yonge Corridor’s game. Residents spend little time at home, which suits them just fine, as these downtown core apartments and condos tend to be on the smaller side. That said, new builds with flashy new amenities, including new dishwashers, in-suite laundry, and spacious balconies are everywhere. Locals here prerfer to rush from the gym to work or class, straight to drinks with friends, dinner dates, and partying at the club. Then they crash for a few hours before starting the whole cycle over again. Healthy active lifestyles are prized in this area, with clean eating and working out considered de rigeur. The Church-Wellesley Village is always hopping at night, with the latter often turning into a borderline street party as individuals from bars and clubs spill out onto the street.

Neighbourhood

Public transit is about as good as it gets here, with the entirety of the neighbourhood being walking distance from the Yonge subway. There are a number of grocery stores around the neighbourhood, the highlight of which being the Loblaws in the former Maple Leaf Gardens at Church and Carlton. Also in the Maple Leaf Gardens complex is Joe Fresh, medical offices, and a LCBO. Restaurants and cool shops abound, as do entertainment options, from bars to clubs to the Carlton Cinema, just steps from College station. There are also several live theatres and the Eaton Centre on Yonge Street. For green spaces, head over to Allen Gardens or check out one of the area’s parkettes. St. Michael’s Hospital is in the neighbourhood, as are numerous medical offices, a LifeLabs, and several pharmacies. In the Church-Yonge corridor, convenience is just steps away.
