Life in Erin Woods is all about family and down home, old-fashioned fun. Champagne and caviar be damned; hand over the burgers and Bud Light. During the week, residents are largely consumed by work and family time. On the weekends though, get ready to kick back at a BBQ, grab a beer with friends, and chow down with the family at a local diner. That is, unless there’s a game on, then expect residents to hang out at home, cheering on the Flames or the Stampeders.

Neighbourhood

The Woods is all about families, especially those with school-aged children. Meanwhile, education rates are low amongst adults, with most just having a high-school diploma. Locals may be more casual than sophisticated, but the area is both progressive and diverse, with strong Vietnamese and First Nations communities.

Land Mark

Erin Woods’ northern tip is made up of undeveloped land, but just below it are a skating rink and a large wholesaling facility. The southern part of the neighbourhood offers better scenery, with a number of parks. In the centre of the neighbourhood is the Erin Woods Community Hall, as well as a pet wellness clinic. Just southwest of the area are an auto parts facility and Martin Motor Sports Calgary. To the south is a mixed commercial and industrial area with a La-Z-Boy, a Metal Supermarkets Calgary, and several wholesale companies. Also in the neighbourhood are some churches and a 7-Eleven.

Perfect for: Blue-collar families with stable incomes.

Not-so-perfect for: Hipsters or artists… And definitely not hipster artists.
