Uptown living in a green setting

About

This pretty North York neighbourhood, a quarter of which is green space, was designed around the curving landscape of the east Don River Ravine. Those who live here love the quiet, winding streets, regal homes and manicured lawns, and they pay a premium to live in such elegance. That said, the area offers plenty of hidden gem cheap rentals as well. The neighbourhood shares its name with the upscale shopping mall at the heart of the neighbourhood. Bayview Village has not escaped redevelopment – the section south of Sheppard is now the site of prestigious high-rise apartment and condominium towers, offering plenty of options to renters.

Bayview Village Rental Market: The Bayview Village market is a mixed one, with a healthy offering of nearly unaffordable homes worth something in the million dollar range, but plenty of smaller bungalows on green lots coming on the market. Condos to the south of the neighbourhood are priced at or just a little below the half-million dollar mark. Rentals are available in the south of the community in clusters of high-rise Bayview Village apartments for rent and condo buildings, although prospective tenants may find the odd Bayview Village house for rent.

Nearby are chic restaurants serving steak, Italian, and fusion flare. In the summer, the tennis club is a hot hangout, while some residents take advantage of the free courts in Bayview Village Park. The East Don Parklands forms a natural area with walking trails and paths below a canopy of natural vegetation and thriving wildlife, making a great escape for walkers, runners and cyclists. Bayview Village is very pet-friendly.

Neighbourhood

Bayview Village is full of green space beyond The East Don Parklands. The community has other small parks, including Blue Ridge Park, Clarinda Park, and Bayview Village Park, with which features a water park and sports fields. Much of the foodie life for residents is focused near the shopping centre at restaurants such as Oliver & Bonacini Cafe Grill, Il Fornello, and Origin North. For healthy living, check out the Bayview Village Tennis Club, where Daniel Nestor once played, and the North York YMCA which has a gym, fitness classes, swimming, and kids' programs. Families take advantage of three good schools in the neighbourhood as well: Elkhorn Public School, Bayview Middle School and St. Gabriel Catholic School. High school students here attend Earl Haig Secondary School, known for its arts programming.

Fun Fact

Bayview Village is one of a tiny number of developments that was planned to fit in with nature, rather than having nature fit into the development plans. When the community was planned in the mid-1950s, the streets were built to follow the curving contours of the Don Valley Ravine.
