A tiny neighbourhood for hefty pocketbooks
Blink and you’ll miss Mayfair – located in Calgary’s SW quadrant. The exclusive neighbourhood is one of the smallest in the city, being just a few streets long and handful wide. Despite its diminutive size, the area boasts an extensive history in the city, dating back to 1957. Since then, it has developed a reputation as the go-to spot for Calgary’s rich and famous to raise their families. But for renters, there are some good, affordable options to be found.

Luxury detached homes.
There are only detached homes in Mayfair, and most would be appropriately labelled as luxury homes. These are well kept, top-of-the-line houses with beautiful lawns and epic views. But know that the places come with just as epic price tags. Rentals are largely limited to rooms in family homes and are best suited for students, but that does mean there are incredible deals to be found. There are plenty house rentals at affordable prices in the area, as Mayfair is a very residential community. You won’t find any apartments for rent or townhouse/condominium units available to rent here, so if that’s what you’re looking for, try a different neighbourhood! You can check out other neighbourhoods in Calgary through Rentals.ca - there’s plenty of rentals to find!
Life & Style
Life in Mayfair has a glamorous quality. With the median income level being what it is, how could the neighbourhood not? Residents basically just have to think about what they want and it’ll appear. World travelling is common, as is fine dining and high-end shopping. Locals aren’t about splurging willy-nilly though. They use their money to engage with culture, history, and the arts, as well as to educate their children.
Wealth is what ties Mayfair residents, especially the homeowners, together. In fact, the median income for the area is a whopping $359,826. This is the land of doctors – both MDs and PhDs. The area’s homeowners are on the older side, either being seniors or parents to teens. Marriage is still an institution here – and the vast majority of the population has put a ring on it.
Mayfair is a small neighbourhood that’s largely residential, so there’s little in the area. The neighbourhood’s natural spaces include a long park that snakes along the west and south sides. To the west is also the Elbow River. The Glenmore Trail SW is at the bottom of the area. Aside from that, there’s a church. Southwest of Mayfair is Rockyview General Hospital, while the Calgary Golf & Country Club is to the north. The east has the Chinook Centre, which plays host to a Scotiabank Theatre.
Perfect for: The 1%. Calgary’s rich, educated, and famous.
Not-so-perfect for: Almost everyone.
