Glamorgan – in Calgary’s SW quadrant – is basically a miracle: a highly affordable neighbourhood that’s also safe and welcoming. The area doesn’t have the same rampant issues with drug use and crime that appear in many of Calgary’s other low-income neighbourhoods. Instead, Glamorgan boasts a strong, tight community marked by local volunteer-run organizations that run family-friendly events, activities for the kids, and area beautification projects. This almost too good to be true neighbourhood is, of course, in high demand, especially with low-income families. Look, Glamorgan isn’t the perfect area, but it’s pretty damn close – especially for the price.

Neighbourhood

Glamorgan is dominated by families and seniors, most of whom are considered low-income. In spite of this, education levels are slightly above average, with many residents boasting post-secondary studies. Artists and artsy types are well represented in the area. There are bus routes along the neighbourhood’s major streets. Drivers have direct access to Glenmore and Sarcee.

Land Mark

Glamorgan’s northwest corner hosts a bank, a couple of restaurants, a London Drugs, several medical and dental offices, and a Canada Post. The northeast corner, meanwhile, has a Safeway, a Western Union, a pharmacy, and a number of restaurants and cafes, as well as a Shell and a nail spa. Also on that end of the neighbourhood is an off leash dog park. Just to the south of Glamorgan is Grey Eagle Resort and Casino. Also close-by are several schools, including Mount Royal University.
