She is a recent graduate of Mount Royal University with a bachelor\u2019s degree in communications specializing in graphic and web design. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rentals.ca asked Barber a few questions about her renting experience in Calgary: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Q.: What\u2019s the first thing you look for in searching for <a href=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/calgary\">Calgary rentals<\/a>?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A.: \u201cLocation is most important. I prefer to live near downtown close to malls, grocery stores and transit.\u201d (The neighbourhood is served by the 69th Street CTrain station and the 93 bus route.) Barber also likes being fairly close to venues for concerts and sporting events. She is a big fan of the Calgary Flames and the Calgary Roughnecks lacrosse team. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her condo is about a 15-minute drive to Calgary\u2019s downtown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Q.: What\u2019s one piece of advice you have for someone looking for a place to rent in Calgary? \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A.: \u00a0\u201cWhen looking for a place to rent, watch out for scams.\u201d She said someone tried to scam her once while looking for a place to rent. (If you suspect fraud, you can report it to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca\/reportincident-signalerincident\/index-eng.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, she advises, \u201cdon\u2019t be afraid to ask a lot of questions, such as \u2018do all the outlets work.\u2019\u201c (She wishes that\u2019s a question she would have asked before signing the lease.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rentals.ca sister brand published a helpful video to identify red flags during your apartment search.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wistia_embed\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.com\/embed\/iframe\/iyko10i96g\" name=\"wistia_embed\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She says another important question is asking about the neighbours. She said the condo courtyard can get loud in the summer with all the children playing, but sometimes she adds she has to be aware of keeping her music down because of older neighbours nearby. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Q.: What amenities do you look for when renting a new place in Calgary?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A.: \u00a0\u201cHaving a washer and dryer and dishwasher are a must.\u201d Beyond the basics, she would like having a garage \u2014 especially during the winter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She likes her condo complex courtyard, and she enjoys the nearby parks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barber says part of the reason she landed in Coach Hill is that she doesn\u2019t have to pay extra for her dog and cat. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to find a place allowing a dog inside.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She has a 5-year-old Catahoula Leopard &#8211; Hound, mixed with a Blue Heeler name Suki and a 12-year-old cat Zonnie. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She said she sometimes takes her dog to Edworthy Park along the Bow River in southwest Calgary, which includes the Douglas Fir Trail and Lawrey Gardens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.calgary.ca\/CSPS\/Parks\/Pages\/Locations\/Dog-off-leash-areas-in-parks.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calgary website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the city has 150 public off-leash areas in its \u00a0multi-use parks for Calgarians and their dogs to enjoy. The city boasts that it might have the largest number of off-leash areas and combined amount of off-leash space in North America. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Q.: What\u2019s something you would change about where you live?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: She doesn\u2019t have too many complaints except that Coach Hill is an older area, and she would \u201cprefer a more modern neighbourhood. \u00a0\u201cBut,\u201d she says, \u201cEverything is close by.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Q.: What would you change to make renting easier, cheaper, or more efficient?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A.: It\u2019s hard to find a place where utilities are included in the rent. Barber would rather make one payment. She also has to pay for another parking spot. She gets one free, but <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pays for the other spot. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Q.: Have you ever won anything before?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: She says she has won a few radio contests for things like movie passes, \u201cbut nothing this big.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Q.: What \u00a0things have you done to your place to make it more cozy or comfortable?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A: I buy tapestries \u2014 \u201cboho, hippie-like tapestries\u201d &#8212; and hang them from the walls. I like hanging artwork.
