The results reveal a voter base feeling the pressure of a volatile housing market\u2014one that is politically uncertain, economically strained, and eager for real action on housing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most Renters Don\u2019t Feel Informed\u2014Especially the Undecided<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only 13% of renters described themselves as \u201cvery well-informed\u201d about housing policy, while one-third said they were \u201csomewhat informed.\u201d Among undecided voters, that figure drops sharply\u2014fewer than one in four feel informed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In contrast, over 60% of renters who support a political party (Liberal, Conservative, or NDP) consider themselves informed. This gap highlights a key insight: undecided voters are not only politically disengaged, but also less confident in their understanding of housing policy\u2014an opportunity for parties to better connect through education and clarity.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where Renters Get Housing Information<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renters rely on a wide variety of sources for housing policy information, with clear generational and awareness-based differences, with social media taking over the top spot, and online sources as a whole (social media, news sites, podcasts) representing 61% of the total.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The breakdown was as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social media \u2013 29%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">News websites and blogs \u2013 28%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TV news \u2013 20%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Political party platforms \u2013 10%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Word of mouth \u2013 9%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Podcasts \u2013 4%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For respondents who feel that they are very well informed, online sources made up an even larger proportion of the total, at 65%, but social media ranked lower at 21%. When asked to identify the biggest factors driving housing unaffordability, they pointed to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inflation and economic instability \u2013 44%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wage stagnation compared to housing prices \u2013 41%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government policies or inaction \u2013 40%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of housing supply \u2013 36%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High interest rates \u2013 18%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short-term rental markets (e.g., Airbnb) \u2013 13%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zoning and municipal regulation \u2013 12%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4769\" src=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-BiggestFactorsHousingCrisis.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"794\" height=\"889\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-BiggestFactorsHousingCrisis.png 794w, https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-BiggestFactorsHousingCrisis-480x537.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 794px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This signals a shift in public perception: renters are just as concerned about affordability pressures and economic fairness as they are about supply constraints.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key Issues for Undecided Voters<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While issues for currently undecided voters were similar to the broader population, they did skew more towards concerns with inflation and wage stagnation, indicating that addressing the overall cost of living could be the key for parties hoping to win over these swing voters:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inflation and economic instability \u2013 50%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wage stagnation compared to housing prices \u2013 47%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government policies or inaction \u2013 38%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lack of housing supply \u2013 38%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High interest rates \u2013 19%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rising construction costs &#8211; 16%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short-term rental markets (e.g., Airbnb) \u2013 14%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4771 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-Key-Issues-UndecidedLegend-01-1024x738.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"738\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-Key-Issues-UndecidedLegend-01-980x707.png 980w, https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-Key-Issues-UndecidedLegend-01-480x346.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Undecided voters also showed very low confidence in the ability of any national party to improve housing affordability, with every party having well over 50% of respondents indicating \u201cLow Confidence\u201d, and less than 10% indicating \u201cHigh Confidence\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4779 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-Level-Confidence-PartyLegendLabelled-01-1024x741.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"741\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-Level-Confidence-PartyLegendLabelled-01-980x709.png 980w, https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-Level-Confidence-PartyLegendLabelled-01-480x347.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Housing Policy Is a Priority for Renters<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Renters overwhelmingly see housing as a major election issue:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">60% said housing policy is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">very important<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">22% said it is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">important<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4770\" src=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-HowImportantHousingPolicies.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"794\" height=\"577\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-HowImportantHousingPolicies.png 794w, https:\/\/rentals.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Fed-Elec-2025-1-HowImportantHousingPolicies-480x349.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 794px, 100vw\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That means more than four in five respondents consider housing policy a key issue heading into the 2025 election.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confidence in Political Parties Is Low<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the issue\u2019s importance, renters remain skeptical of political leadership:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confidence in any party\u2019s housing plan is low across the board.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conservative Party earned the highest level of \u201chigh confidence,\u201d but still from only about 21% of renters.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confidence was higher among voters who considered themselves informed, regardless of party affiliation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most Renters Are Still Undecided<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The largest voting group in the survey wasn\u2019t aligned with any party at all\u201435% of renters are undecided about how they will vote.
